Green Sand Casting & Molding
Green sand molding is a popular casting process used to create metal components. It uses green or wet, uncured sand with additives to form the mold cavity rather than dried or baked sand.
Our Green Sand Molding Process
The molding process starts with the processing of raw sand to ensure even grain size. We then incorporate additives that allow the sand to retain its shape during casting. Additives may include clay, coal dust, cellulose, pitch, and silica flour depending on the application.
Once we have a pattern for the desired component, we create a form by compression sand around the pattern at high pressure. We can add cores and other spaces for internal cavities and components per your provided specifications.
Our two International and Osborne green sand molding machines are the workhorses of the shop. These versatile machines are built for all levels of production and are capable of handling castings weighing up to 100 pounds.
In addition, our 6-station squeezer molding line offers the added versatility of quick setup and fast turnaround of lighter weight castings.
With a fully automated overhead sand supply and high volume pallet lines, orders for 100's or 1000's of green sand castings are made efficiently.
